David, as the error message says you seem to have not enough rights to write to the file. try opening a root shell and edit the file from there.

When I try to insert pci=nommconf then save the revised file, I get the message "Error KWrite"
The document could not be saved, as it was not possible to write to file:///boot/grub/menu.1st.
Check that you have write access to this file or that enough disk space is available.

What am I doing wrong please?

IT WORKS! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!

I am quite happy about this.

I did, however, get quite confused by your line breaks. Note to others: it doesn't work if you put in the line breaks, it has to be on the same line as the other boot options.

I actually love you (in a non-scary way)

I have been trying for ages to get this to work, and when I finally got madwifi installed and still no sign of the card actually being there I almost gave up completely.

Will let you know if it works for me (Samsung R20, OpenSUSE 10.3)
